Litter Timeline Project
The idea for the Litter Timeline Project was brought to the table in the summer of 2013. In the fall of that same year, the Youth Engagement Committee developed, launched and administered a pilot project to grade seven students at St. Paul’s Junior High. The response received was outstanding.
What was originally just a timeline from a poster was quite literally brought to life and became a hands-on presentation used to educate and engage our youth aged 11-13. During the presentation, students learn to identify types of litter commonly found around the city and asked how long it takes each item to biodegrade. The timeline reveals the truth. This fun activity-based approach engages students while fostering awareness about issues related to litter, graffiti and the environment.
Since its inception, Youth Engagement have presented to numerous schools around the city. We have also taken the Litter Timeline to various businesses and organizations. Recent appearances include, the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility, Nalcor for their Environment week and the Avalon Mall.
Essentially, it is a simple concept that has a very BIG impact!
