SUPER Speak-Off Winners 2014

St. John’s Clean and Beautiful is pleased to announce the winners of the SUPER Speak Off. Twenty grade six students participated in the public speaking event held at City Hall on Thursday, March 20th. 1St place was awarded to Emma Hamilton from St. Bon’s, 2nd place went to Aaron Sarkar from St. Andrew’s Elementary, and 3rd place to John Pearce from Lakecrest. These students, along with others, spoke on various topics, such as Litter Prevention and City Beautification, Ecological Protection and Heritage Preservation, Community Development, and Youth Leadership.

“All the participants in the Super Speak Off should be proud of what they achieved,” said Councillor Dave Lane, the Master of Ceremonies for the event and the City’s representative on the Clean and Beautiful Board. “It was inspiring to hear so many passionate and thoughtful speeches from these young people who will clearly be the leaders of tomorrow.”

The winners each received a slate plaque along with a cash prize for each category.

St. John’s Clean and Beautiful is a voluntary non-profit organization committed to creating public awareness, ownership, and involving the community in the cleanliness and beautification of our City. The dedicated promotion of partnership, working together and individual responsibility make this happen. This in turn fosters economic investment, increases property values, and contributes to safety. Improving the quality of life and contributing to a healthier environment for the residents of St. John’s.
